It works by reducing the levels of your body's anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant enzymes, which are involved in inflammation. Fenoprofen blocks your body's production of this inflammatory substance, reducing the production of a number of chemicals involved in this process which contribute to the body's healing. It is thought that Fenoprofen reduces the severity of your symptoms.

Obesity, particularly the over-the-counter (OTC) obesity pill, has become a controversial topic. While the prevalence of obesity among consumers is rising, there is a notable under-recognition of the topic. According to a recent report by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), in 2020, the prevalence of obesity in adults increased by 4.9% (95% CI, 4.2%–5.5%) from 2011 to 2020, and increased by 4.4% (95% CI, 4.2%–5.5%) in the year 2023 to 2026 [1].
In this study, we explore the prevalence of obesity in consumers who take OTC obesity medications such as Xenical (OR: 9.0; 95% CI, 3.7–11.9), Orlistat (OR: 10.3; 95% CI, 3.2–14.5), and Mounjaro (OR: 13.8; 95% CI, 5.2–22.9) and compare these to the prevalence of obesity among those who take prescription weight-loss medication, including Orlistat and Mounjaro. The primary outcome measure was the prevalence of obesity in the participants taking the drugs in the same class or in both the groups. Secondary outcomes included BMI, weight-for-height (TFH), waist circumference (WC), and total daily caloric intake (TDI).
A total of 12,882 individuals were included in the analysis, including 7,839 (10.3%) who were taking OTC obesity medications. The prevalence of obesity was similar among the three groups: 1.6% (95% CI, 1.6%–1.8%) among the groups who took the drugs in the same class or in both the groups; and 2.1% (95% CI, 2.1%–2.1%) among the groups who took the drugs in the same class or in both the groups [2].
A subgroup analysis using the prevalence of obesity in the three groups, also showed similar results [3]. The prevalence of obesity was not different among the three groups when the prevalence of obesity was defined by the following criteria: 1. Body mass index (BMI) ≥25.0 kg/m2 or ≥30.0 kg/m2 or ≥40.0 kg/m2 or ≥45.0 kg/m2 or ≥47.9 kg/m2, and ≥50 kg/m2 or ≥47.8 kg/m2 or ≥52.4 kg/m2 or ≥52.6 kg/m2 or ≥52.7 kg/m2 [4].
The prevalence of obesity in the three groups was not significantly different. This result is consistent with other studies and suggests that OTC obesity medications may cause weight gain. In addition, patients who take OTC obesity medications are more likely to be obese than those who take prescription weight-loss medications [5–7].
Although OTC obesity medications can lead to weight gain, they do not produce the same weight loss as other medications [8]. In the NCHS study, there was an increase in weight gain and an increase in BMI between the groups in the group taking the drugs in the same class or in both the groups. This result is consistent with other studies [9,10,11,12,13,14] and suggests that OTC obesity medications may lead to weight gain. In addition, there are differences in the effects of the OTC drugs between groups, such as the percentage of patients in the group taking the drugs in the same class versus in the other groups, and the duration of the drugs versus the duration of the drugs in the other groups [11].
In addition to the effects of OTC obesity medications on weight gain, several factors should be taken into consideration when evaluating the potential effects of OTC obesity medications on weight loss [15,16]. The prevalence of obesity in the three groups was not significantly different when the prevalence of obesity was defined as either BMI ≥25.0 or ≥30.0 kg/m2 or ≥40.0 kg/m2 or ≥47.9 kg/m2 or ≥50 kg/m2 or ≥52.4 kg/m2 [16]. However, the prevalence of obesity in the group with BMI ≥25.0 kg/m2 or ≥30.0 kg/m2 or ≥40.0 kg/m2 or ≥47.9 kg/m2 or ≥52.4 kg/m2 was 4.9% (95% CI, 4.2%–5.5%) in the study by Koyta et al. [16].
